My Wedding (Part 6) Food and Drink (and of course cake!)

Welcome to the sixth part of a series of posts all about my wedding, with ideas, tips, inspiration and downloadable resources. Today I'd like to talk about one of my favourite parts-the food and drink!

We had a sit-down meal for about 50 people served by The Poachers Country Hotel and it was amazing! We had home-made tomato and basil soup to start, then a choice of Turkey, Beef or the veggie option (a brie, asparagus and mushroom tart), followed by an assiette of desserts (4 mini desserts on a long plate)-Malteasers Cheesecake, Strawberry Pims Jelly (served in a cute little glass with a spoon), Raspberry Shortbread and Crème Brûlée (to die for). It was so good, I was just sorry that I couldn't eat all of my main course because of the dress!

Later in the evening they did a cold buffet which included a selection of wraps, veggie tartlets, Lincolnshire chipolatta sausages, lamb koftas, chicken goujons and vegetarian tostada. Sadly I didn't get to see or sample any of it, but I'm told it was very nice!

For drinks we had Bucks Fizz as a welcome drink and some pink fizz for the toasts and then guests bought additional drinks from the bar. I barely had any all day as drinks kept being taken out of my hand or put down and lost and I managed to spill my toast drink all over the tablecloth (oops). So I was definitely ready to crack open the champagne at the end of the day.

My favourite part of the food was of course the cake. My Auntie made it to a design I suggested and it was absolutely stunning. I didn't want to cut it, it was so beautiful! It was also delicious and we were eating it for about a week after. We had four tiers-vanilla, chocolate, lemon and coffee. It was a shame we couldn't keep it.

What would your ideal wedding cake look like and what flavour would it be?

  1. I love the color theme for your wedding - especially the turquoise/blue with the peacock accents. I wish I had done that! Peacock feathers and colors are amazing. Congrats! :)

    1. Thanks Marci, the peacock blue is my favourite colour so I had to have it. Luckily my husband likes it too. A few people told me that peacock feathers are unlucky, but I've never found them to be so. I wanted to do something a bit different.
